Gomer Junior School celebrated pupils’ sporting prowess with its ‘Sainsbury’s Schools Games Day’ on Wednesday 24 June. This event took place in the afternoon and was a great opportunity for parents and carers to see their children in action. All children took part in a range of exciting events where they worked together to win points for their house colour. At the end of the afternoon, families gathered around the track to see pupils compete in the finals of athletics events for which there have been heats in previous weeks.
Deputy Head teacher, Mr Tim Potter, believes that the games day gives all pupils the chance to shine, “It has been organised in this way so that team work is encouraged as well as competition. All children have great fun in the six ‘field events’, especially the sack race and then the traditional races at the end allow for individual children to shine.”
The day ended with all children gathering together to hear the results, receive the cup and to find out which pupils have been selected for the special ‘Gomer Sports Awards. These are trophies awarded to pupils, chosen by their teachers, who have been model sportsmen and sportswomen over the year. It was a fun and rewarding afternoon. A particular well done to the Red Team; the 2015 winners. Thank you to everyone who supported such a super event.
